The Last of the Many: Hurricane PZ865 Cufflinks

Close your eyes and hear the rhythmic thrum of the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine warming on the Langley flight line in 1944. These cufflinks are not merely accessories, they are fragments of the last Hawker Hurricane ever produced, an aircraft that closed the chapter on a legend while beginning a storied life of its own.

The Biography of the Metal The metal within these pieces is reclaimed from Hawker Hurricane Mk IIC, tail number PZ865. Known affectionately as "The Last of the Many," this airframe was the final of 14,533 Hurricanes to roll off the production line in July 1944. Eschewing the frontline for a life of prestige, PZ865 served as a Hawker company aircraft, famously placing second in the 1950 King’s Cup Air Race under the command of Group Captain Peter Townsend. From acting as a chase plane for the revolutionary P.1127 V/STOL trials to appearing on the silver screen in the 1969 "Battle of Britain" film, this metal has witnessed the evolution of British aviation. In 1972, it was gifted to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, where it remains a flying tribute to the pilots of the RAF.

The Founder’s Note When you hold these cufflinks, you feel the substantial weight of history, a tactile connection to the craftsmen of the 1940s and the veteran-owned legacy we uphold today. We have specifically developed a unique alloy that melds the reclaimed Hurricane aluminium directly with hallmarked sterling silver, ensuring the physical soul of the aircraft is present throughout the entire piece. I personally inspect every set to ensure the hand-polished surface reflects the spirit of the airframe, it is a dense, honest material that carries the echoes of a thousand flight hours and the distinctive DNA of British engineering at its zenith.
